A paver driveway is a patio that has to carry a truck. Same material menu, very different base, and the quote has to respect that difference or the job eats you. The calculator above prices it by square footage and paver type, with the base work carried as add-ons you can see.

How paver driveway pricing works

The example rates ($16 per square foot standard, $21 permeable, $24 premium) are the same installed-price placeholders as patio work, and that’s deliberate: on driveways, the real difference is underneath. Vehicle loading means deeper excavation and substantially more compacted base than a patio, and on bad soil it means the extra base add-on, not wishful thinking. Price the surface by paver type and price the ground by what’s actually there.

Where paver driveways make or lose money:

A driveway sanity check

A 20 by 40 foot driveway is 800 square feet. At the example standard rate of $16 that’s $12,800 before tear-out and base work. Big ticket, big expectations: an itemized quote is what keeps the conversation grounded.

Quote it with your own rates

PriceDesk carries your rates by paver type, your tear-out and base pricing, and your minimum, and turns a driveway measurement into an itemized text-ready quote in about ten seconds.

Common questions

Can you drive on a paver driveway right after installation?

Yes. Once the pavers are compacted and the joints are sanded there is no cure time, which is one practical edge pavers have over poured concrete.

Are permeable pavers worth it for a driveway?

They let stormwater soak through instead of running off, and some municipalities require or credit that on new driveways. The example rate here is $21 per square foot against $16 for standard pavers, and the open-graded base underneath is a different build.

What maintenance does a paver driveway need?

Topping up joint sand, occasional cleaning, and optional sealing. The repair story is the selling point, since a stained or settled paver can be lifted and replaced individually instead of patching a slab.
