Garage floors look simple on paper: a rectangle indoors. In practice they’re precision work. The slab has to hit grade against an existing foundation, slope toward the door, and finish flat enough that the customer doesn’t notice it ever again. Quote accordingly.

What sets garage floors apart

Example math

A standard two-car garage runs around 20 by 20, which is 400 square feet. At the example rate of $9 per square foot that’s $3,600 before tear-out or prep. Replacing an existing cracked floor adds demo inside a structure, which is its own line item, and the example tear-out rate of $4 per square foot is the right ballpark to start the conversation. The full method, from thickness to grade against the foundation, is in how to price a garage floor.

Put your numbers in it

The rates above are examples for getting a feel. PriceDesk runs this calculator with your actual rates on your phone, so when the customer asks “roughly what does a garage floor run?”, you answer before the tape measure is back on your belt.

Common questions

Can you pour a new garage floor over the old one?

Rarely. An overlay raises the floor against door openings, steps, and the foundation, so most garage floor replacements mean breaking out the old slab and pouring back at the original grade.

Does a garage floor need rebar or mesh?

Vehicles live on it, so reinforcement is cheap insurance against cracking. The example rates on this page carry rebar or mesh as an add-on at $1.50 per square foot.

How long before you can park on a new garage floor?

Foot traffic within a day or two is normal, but keep cars off for about a week so the slab can build strength. Ask your contractor for the timeline that fits the mix they used.
