A 15x15 patio is the square entertaining patio: 225 square feet, enough for a full dining set with real circulation space, or a centered table under an umbrella with room left over. Square footprints host well because nobody sits in a dead-end corner.

Two things specific to a 15 foot square

First, joints. A 4 inch patio wants control joints at roughly 10 to 12 foot spacing, and 15 feet is past that. So a 15x15 typically gets jointed into four quadrants. On a square patio those joint lines are front and center, which is why a good contractor will talk joint layout with you before pour day. It is a design decision, not just a crack-control one.

Second, the finish upgrade math scales fast now. On this footprint the gap between the example broom rate and the example stamped rate is $1,575. That same upgrade on a 10x12 was half as much. The bigger the patio, the more the finish decision is the budget decision.

Beyond the base rate

The table assumes a clear, level, truck-accessible site. Off that ideal: tear-out of an existing surface adds an example $4 per square foot, $900 here. Site prep and grading adds an example $2, $450. Sealing, another example $2, is $450 and earns its keep over colored or stamped work. And thickness stays at the typical 4 inches for patios, so the money moves with finish and site work, not with extra concrete depth.

Common questions

Why does a square patio get cut into four sections?

Concrete needs control joints so it cracks where you want instead of where it wants. On a 4 inch slab the spacing works out so a 15x15 usually gets jointed into quadrants.

Is 15x15 big enough for entertaining?

Yes. A square this size takes a full dining set with circulation space, or a table plus a separate seating corner. It is a common sweet spot for hosting.

Does colored concrete fade?

Integral color is mixed through the concrete, so it does not peel, but sun and wear soften any finish over time. Sealing on a schedule keeps color looking fresh longest.
